Artist Statement

As ceramics is a craft medium, my practice draws from traditional pottery and its range of functions, whether they are ritualistic, like in tea ceremonies, or utilitarian, like cooking in a clay pot.

Repetition is my dominant motif; it’s hard to miss the spiked and bubbled appendages that define my ceramics. Repetition communicates a commitment to doing something again and again—out of necessity, love, harm, et cetera—not unlike one’s daily habits that ultimately amount to a life lived. Repetition is the throughline in both my everyday and ritualistic art objects, putting those levels of occasion on equal footing.
